Reframing the Narrative

A partnership to develop antiracist and culturally responsive social studies curricula

Antiracist + Culturally Responsive Social Studies

The paradox of education is precisely this—that as one begins to become conscious one begins to examine the society in which he is being educated..” James Baldwin

Anti-racism is the practice of identifying, challenging, and changing the values, structures, behaviors that perpetuate systemic racism. In short, anti-racism is action and behavior.

As educators, we hold positions of inherent power in a system with tremendous power. We align ourselves with the ACPS Anti-Racism Policy and its central vision, goals, and outcomes to be agents within these power structures. Furthermore, we align ourselves with other content departments and national initiatives in order to strive for holistically equitable learning experiences for our students.
